"I've had a passion for painting, drawing and the creative process for as long as I can remember."

An accomplished and evolving artist, Judy Bert Frisk completed an Art Major at Southeast Missouri State University, has worked in oil, decorative painting and interior design. Several years ago Judy rediscovered her love for watercolor painting, and has been painting in that medium exclusively. She has studied under nationally acclaimed watercolorists including Susan Blackwood, Nita Engle, Cathy Goodale, Duane Light and continues her education in the challenging medium. Her work has been included in National Juried Art Shows.

Luminous Style

Judy’s watercolors are fresh and vibrant. Her work is spontaneous as she captures the essence of her subject matter with an impressionistic style.  She uses thin glazes of watercolor to reveal the glow of the medium.  (See Judy's techniques)   Judy has combined her love of flowers with her love of painting. Her many admirers call her florals and garden settings "Happy Paintings." Recently her subject matter has included alpine flora and vistas. "In the beautiful high-country summer season wildflowers abound and provide a constant source of pleasure and inspiration for my paintings," Judy says. Her works are included in collections nationwide and internationally.

Favorite Subjects

Two of Judy’s favorite subjects to paint are geraniums and columbines. Geraniums because her favorite color is red – the house is decorated with lots of other red accents – and they were always available to paint. The faithful geranium bloomed out-of-doors all summer and then came inside en masse in the winter. The sunroom in Winter Park was full of them. After a month or two of painting snow scenes looking out the studio window she was back to painting geraniums.

The love for columbines was a fascination with the intricate shape and beauty of the blue flower. They know of several "secret" places around Winter Park where there are acres of woodland columbines faithfully appearing year after year attracting their group of artist friends to the meadows each spring to paint them. The delicate yet hardy nature of the columbine makes it unique and a delight to include in landscapes and close up floral paintings.

Paintings Available

Judy and her husband, artist Phil Frisk, produce and market her paintings as well as a line of limited edition prints and greeting cards. They have presented the prints in a variety of sizes and in some innovative approaches. She personalizes the prints with original remarques in the mats creating one-of-a-kind prints.

Judy’s work may be seen at her studios in Grand Junction and Winter Park, at Trail Ridge Art Company in Winter Park, and Western Colorado Botanical Society in Grand Junction and at Summer Art Festivals throughout the Rocky Mountains. Previous outdoor art shows include: Snowmass Arts and Crafts Fair, Crested Butte Art Festival, Steamboat Art in the Park, Breckenridge July 4th & Labor Day Art Fests, Winter Park ArtAffair, Castle Rock Art Festival, Heritage Square Art Festival, Durango Art Fair, Evergreen Arts festival, Estes Park Art Fair, Glenwood Springs Strawberry Days Art Fair and Fifth Avenue Art Festival, Scottsdale AZ. Judy enjoys meeting art lovers at outdoor festivals and may frequently be seen painting for onlookers. She also enjoys sharing her love of watercolor by conducting workshops and classes.
